The battle between Chainsaw Man and Katana Man is one of the most thrilling moments in Season 1 of the Chainsaw Man anime. The fight was initially quite evenly matched, but ultimately, Katana Man managed to defeat Chainsaw Man. Chainsaw Man, who was still inexperienced in combat skills, had to concede defeat as Katana Man proved to be more skilled in facing opponents.

However, it wasn't just that alone that led to Chainsaw Man's loss. There were other factors at play in the fight, revealing more about the context of the battle and shedding light on the real reasons Chainsaw Man had to give up. We will delve into the journeys of Chainsaw Man and Katana Man, uncover their backgrounds, and discover the actual reasons behind Chainsaw Man's defeat in his first battle.

Here Are the 4 Reasons Chainsaw Man Lost to Katana Man!

1. Katana Man Had Planned to Seek Revenge Against Denji.

Denji's story begins when his father chooses to end his life, leaving behind a lot of debt to the Yakuza Boss. To repay his father's debt, Denji is forced to dedicate his life to working as a Devil Hunter for the Yakuza Boss. His task is to hand over the corpses of defeated demons to the Yakuza Boss. As a result, Denji is able to sustain his life and help pay off his debt through the wages provided by the Yakuza Boss. On the other hand, the Yakuza Boss also admits to profiting greatly from selling the corpses of demons defeated by Denji.

However, the Yakuza Boss is a Zombie Devil himself and despises demon exterminators like Denji. One day, the Yakuza Boss traps Denji in a hideout filled with zombies and orders his forces to take Denji's life. Despite initially dying, Denji is saved by the Chainsaw Devil named Pochita, who gives his heart to Denji. From this point on, Denji becomes the Chainsaw Man, a hybrid demon capable of transforming into the Chainsaw Man form. In Chainsaw Man mode, Denji immediately eliminates all the zombie forces and the Yakuza Boss who attacked him.

After the Gun Devil learns that the Chainsaw Devil has given its heart to Denji, the Gun Devil assigns Sawatari Akane to retrieve Denji's heart. Subsequently, Sawatari Akane teams up with Katana Man to hunt down Denji, as Katana Man holds a personal grudge against Denji for killing the Yakuza Boss, who was Katana Man's beloved grandfather.

The first reason for Chainsaw Man's defeat against Katana Man is that Denji is unaware that he is the target of Katana Man's vendetta. Meanwhile, Katana Man and Sawatari Akane have devised a plan to eliminate Denji.

2. Makima Hasn't Trained Denji as a Public Devil Hunter yet.

After receiving a report that Division 4 was trapped for days in a hotel due to the actions of a Devil who sought Denji's heart, Makima decided to take action. This Devil was willing to release Division 4 from the hotel if they agreed to eliminate Denji on its behalf. Consequently, Makima intended to travel by train from Tokyo to Kyoto on official business. Her plan was to seek assistance from the authorities in Kyoto to protect Denji.

Following this, an incident of gunfire occurred involving a group of Yakuza who targeted all Devil Hunter Divisions in Tokyo. This event resulted in numerous Devil Hunter members losing their lives and some of the survivors choosing to resign. Even Makima, who was en route to Kyoto on the train, wasn't spared from the Yakuza's attack. However, she managed to defeat the attackers. Subsequently, Makima was appointed as the head of the newly formed Special Division Unit 4.

Upon discovering that the Tokyo shooting incident was orchestrated by Katana Man and Sawatari Akane, who were tasked by the Gun Devil to steal Denji's heart, Makima decided to have Denji and Power train under Kishibe. Makima's intention was to strengthen the new members of Division 4, with a particular focus on making Denji stronger, as he was being targeted by the Gun Devil.

Reason #2 for Chainsaw Man's defeat against Katana Man is that when Denji was initially recruited as a Public Devil Hunter, Makima didn't immediately send him to train with Kishibe. Instead, Makima assigned the still-inexperienced Denji to join Division 4 in their demon extermination tasks.

3. Denji Isn't Ready to Fight Against Katana Man yet.

When Denji was enjoying a bowl of ramen with Power, Aki, and Himeno, Katana Man was also dining on ramen at a nearby table. Subsequently, Katana Man complained about the unsatisfying taste of the ramen on his palate, but both Power and Denji countered that the ramen they were eating was delicious.

Even though Katana Man was seemingly talking to himself, every word he uttered seemed directed at Denji. Katana Man began to recount stories about his grandfather, who held a position as a Yakuza Boss and was regarded as a kind-hearted individual. He often took Katana Man to luxurious restaurants and would buy him whatever he wanted using the proceeds from illegal activities.

Later on, Katana Man showed Denji a childhood photo of himself with his grandfather. Suddenly, Katana Man aimed a pistol at Denji, causing him to collapse after being shot in the forehead. Subsequently, Katana Man blindly fired the pistol at Power, Aki, and Himeno.

The third reason for Chainsaw Man's defeat against Katana Man lies in the fact that Denji's purpose for visiting the restaurant was to relax and have a good time with his colleagues from Division 4. Conversely, Katana Man's visit had a vengeful motive against Denji, and he was fully prepared for combat, even arming himself with a pistol.

4. Chainsaw Man vs. Katana Man: Denji Loses the Battle

While Denji was unconscious due to being shot in the forehead, Himeno's Devil Hand ability, even after being defeated by Sawatari Akane, managed to pull the string on Denji's chest. This automatic action caused Denji to wake up and transform into Chainsaw Man.

Subsequently, Chainsaw Man expressed his delight in being able to fight against evil individuals, as he no longer needed to feel guilty or fear judgment from others for committing ruthless actions, such as defeating Katana Man.

Following this, a battle between Chainsaw Man and Katana Man ensued, resulting in the clash of Chainsaw's saw power and Katana's sword power. Chainsaw Man then knocked down Katana Man using a punch from his chainsaw arm. However, Katana Man retaliated by striking Chainsaw Man with a sword swing.

Later, Katana Man received assistance from two Crocs who aimed pistols at Chainsaw Man, but Chainsaw Man quickly overpowered and defeated them. The clash between Chainsaw Man's saw arm and Katana Man's sword arm continued, but Chainsaw Man suffered a slash wound.

Next, Chainsaw Man took one of the Crocs hostage, threatening to tear the Croc apart if Katana Man made a move. Katana Man pretended to surrender by crouching down, making Chainsaw Man believe that Katana Man was unwilling to sacrifice his comrade's life. However, in reality, Katana Man was preparing to execute his ultimate sword strike against Chainsaw Man.

As a result, in a single strike, Katana Man successfully cut both Chainsaw Man and one of the Crocs' bodies. After defeating Chainsaw Man and rendering him defeated, Katana Man ordered another Croc to carry Chainsaw Man's severed body.

The fourth reason for Chainsaw Man's defeat against Katana Man lies in Denji's naive thinking as a Devil Hunter. Denji assumed that Katana Man cared about the safety of his comrades, unaware that Katana Man was a ruthless villain who would do anything to defeat his enemies.
